Now part of a national initiative to measure energy efficiency in small businesses!
July 21, 2014 – Green Impact Campaign (GIC) is a nonprofit organization that is bringing student volunteers and small businesses together to make a global impact. Using cloud-based tools, GIC is training and supporting university students across the country to go out and conduct free energy surveys for small businesses. Small businesses gain community recognition and valuable custom, actionable information to make them more sustainable and profitable. Student volunteers receive professional skills through hands-on experience and carry a mission to help as many other local businesses show their commitment and learn about ways that they can reduce their energy usage. And collectively, we all benefit from living and working in better communities. See Hurricane in the GIC Directory: www.greenimpactcampaign.org/business-members/
Green Energy Survey
If you are interested in a volunteer-conducted Green Energy Survey, all you have to do is complete a 30-question survey that results in a custom, actionable plan with specific energy saving recommendations. It includes cost and saving estimates, industry comparisons, and a progress tracker to measure impact. GIC can give you access to GEMS so that you can conduct a self-survey, or a GIC volunteer can conduct the survey for you.
Sustainability Marketing & Branding
When promoting your business sustainability initiatives, be as specific and detailed whenever possible. There is a lot of greenwashing out there and the best way to combat that is to be specific and tell a story whenever possible. So for example, when you say “conserve energy and resources in our office” try to provide some tangible details such as “use of high-efficiency LED lighting in all fixtures in our office” or “conserve water in our office through the use of low-flow toilets and high-efficiency aerators.” You can read about some of GIC’s successful impact stories here: http://greenimpactcampaign.org/impact-spotlight-cove-upgrades-to-high-efficiency-lighting/.
